About Us

BACKGROUND TO THE FORUM

Walsall Domestic Violence Forum was formed in 1992 by a number of people working with those caught up in violence between partners or within families. It's membership includes people who work for Victim Support, Walsall Police H1 and H2, Social Care and Supported Housing, Housing Associations, Local Solicitors, Walsall Teaching Primary Care Trust, Probation Service, The Children's Society, Walsall Hospitals N.H.S. Trust and individuals with relevant skills and knowledge.

The Forum aims to offer professionals who work within the field of domestic violence the opportunity to gain support from one another through sharing experiences and knowledge. Furthermore, the Forum aims to inform policy and decision-making in relation to domestic violence in Walsall . The |forum believes that tackling domestic violence should not just be the sole responsibility for responding to domestic violence, and therefore the Forum would like to do further work in partnership with other agencies and services.

AIMS 

•  To support the development of awareness of domestic violence in Walsall by:

A.  Sharing and pooling information and insights between statutory, voluntary and community organisations.

B.  Creating a greater awareness of the incidence and effects of domestic violence to encourage both victims and perpetrators to seek alternatives.

•  To build up a more comprehensive picture of the impact of domestic violence within family units.

•  To identify and highlight priority areas and gaps in present provision for victims of domestic violence in the Borough of Walsall and to develop a plan of action to meet those needs.

•  To keep abreast of issues policies and practices within the domestic violence arena nationally.

•  To develop and maintain links with ethnic minority and community groups within Walsall and thus promote awareness of domestic violence.

•  To support Walsall in implementation of the NO MORE EXCUSES' Borough wide strategy to reduce domestic violence.
