STEPPING STONES
Support Group

Please call our FREE 24hr helpline on:
0800 389 5790 (this number will not appear on your phone bill)

All calls are treated in the strictest confidence.

We understand the difficulties you may be facing. It may not have been easy to visit this web site.

At Stepping Stones we are aware that not all problems can be solved - if only it were that easy, but sometimes it helps to talk to someone who will just listen.

We are not here to judge you or tell you what to do - those choices are yours alone to make.

Our volunteers are fully trained and are aware of the issues of domestic violence.

In fact, many of them are survivors and have been in similar situations themselves.

Support is out there.

Domestic Violence is not your fault!

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS A CHOICE!

THERE ARE NO EXCUSES

WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?

Domestic Violence usually happens behind closed doors. it can affect anyone regardless of their age, race, religion, culture, gender, sexuality or social status.

Most Domestic Violence is perpetrated by men against women - usually by a husband, partner or ex-partner. The women become trapped in an abusive situation often feeling that they deserve it, provoke it or that their abusers can not help it.

YOU WILL PROBABLY RECOGNISE SOME OF THE EXAMPLES OF DIFFERENT FORMS OF ABUSE BELOW:

PHYSICAL ABUSE:
Slapping, punching, pinching, poking,
restraining, biting, kicking...

EMOTIONAL ABUSE:
Shouting, name calling, put downs,
humiliation, mind games...

SEXUAL ABUSE:
Forced sexual intercourse or acts,
Unwanted touching, sex against your will, rape...

FINANCIAL ABUSE:
Denied access to money, debts, forced to work,
not allowed to work,
asking for money for personal items...

UNFORTUNATLY, THE ABOVE ARE ONLY A
FEW EXAMPLES - THERE ARE MANY MORE
THAT COULD BE ADDED TO THE LIST.
